Jeremy: ‘I found my way with God. It has changed my life.’

Jeremy - Transformational Recovery

Jeremy

Homelessness and drug addiction led me to City Gospel Mission’s recovery program. I lost my car and my housing. I’ve lost family. I’ve lost a lot of friends. I lived under a bridge and have overdosed 22 times. But I know God definitely has a purpose for me.

I’ve been in the recovery program here for three years. In 2023, I have three years plus of sobriety. At any time, I could leave here. I’ve already graduated, but they let me stay to keep working on myself.

I’ve been working at a flooring company for three months. City Gospel Mission’s employment network helped me get that job.

Cassie at the front desk at JobsPlus, she was asking me about the work that I had done in my life. She was like, “Well, here. Call this guy” who was with the flooring company.

So, when I showed up there, me and him were only talking for a few minutes and he’s like, “This is the new guy. He’s going to be starting tomorrow.”

That’s all JobsPlus. The people there are all really good kind-hearted people.

‘I want to be a success story’

I definitely want to be a success story. My dad’s back in my life. We didn’t talk for a good while because just his son being a drug addict was – you don’t realize how much it takes out of people. I also go stay with my son all the time.

I found my way with God. It has changed my life.

This part chokes me up. Because without people donating, I wouldn’t have my job, or the meals and bed I sleep in. I wouldn’t have some place to be where my family knows I’m safe. Their money and their kindheartedness mean the world because it has totally changed my life. And it’s changing other people’s lives. You’re fixing people’s lives.
