Step Forward unites and mobilizes volunteers to help men and women in addiction recovery at City Gospel Mission to break the cycle of poverty, despair and addiction. We show God’s love to them while training for and then participating in the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon and Queen Bee Half Marathon.
The Step Forward team was launched in 2009 as a way for our community of walkers and runners to love on, encourage, educate and involve addiction recovery participants of the importance of physical fitness, teamwork, and achieving goals while going through their addiction recovery journey that leads to life transformation.
COVID-19 Update: The in-person Flying Pig events are cancelled, but that doesn’t mean we are throwing in the towel. We are currently taking registrations for 2020 VIRTUAL Step Forward racers and will resume team virtual race training August 22, 2020. We encourage you to register to run or walk, encourage recovery participants and fundraise in order to support people in addiction recovery at City Gospel Mission and have fun! We hope you’ll then join us on Saturday, October 10th.
Join Step Forward, register and run the 5K, 10K, half marathon or full marathon at your own pace and time, or socially distanced with us as we train and the race on October 10. And/or fundraise to support these men and women in addiction recovery.
Our social distancing training program starts August 22 preparing for the 5k and 10k races on Saturday, October 10 as a part of the Virtual Flying Pig Marathon weekend. For more information, contact David Pinson at firstname.lastname@example.org.

“Running, along with everything in life, you have to push through the pain. Running is the one thing I look forward to the most every week. I’ve traded my addiction that brought me here for running and healing. However, the important thing for me is to push through the pain on the inside, and that’s what I’ve dedicated myself to now. Running helps me do that. I see the love of God in the volunteers here, and I am so grateful for that.”
-A Step Forward recovery participant
“I believe God is working a miracle. I am just following Him, doing what I’m prompted to do in giving my time and money to help these people who want to be helped. They’re not looking for a hand out like some are on street corners. They are looking for guidance and how to change. They’ve chosen this. The people I’m training with want to change and be responsible for themselves and their families. I’m just acting on what I’m supposed to do”.
