Help a first-generation college student succeed inside and outside the classroom
City Gospel Mission comes alongside under-resourced and first-generation college students who are the proud recipients of the Cincinnati Christian University Urban Scholars scholarship award. Before their first semester of college, scholarship recipients attend our 6-week college prep course that covers such topics as campus life, college writing, study skills, leadership, intercultural communication and time management. Each student is paired with a mentor whom they meet with regularly to ensure a successful transition to college life. We need your help to make a lasting impact on these young adults and help break cycles of generational poverty. Your gift will help a first-generation college student succeed inside and outside the classroom.
By the Numbers
We currently help 25 local college scholarship recipients through mentoring, leadership training, college prep courses and more.
The Story of One
“In high school, I wasn’t really thinking about college. I was thinking about how to survive,” Michael says. Read Michael’s story.
Our college success program is designed to assist students in their academic, spiritual and personal growth. Our goal with the program is to help students navigate through the process of applying to, succeeding in, and graduating from college. We make sure the students have a circle of support and a plan of action to keep them progressing in a positive direction. We have a summer college-prep program, we assign each student a mentor, and we help set them up with on campus tutoring so they have the best tools for success.
