Magnolia Street Buildings

The Magnolia Street Project is a substantial rehabilitation of City Gospel Mission’s main building and of two houses next to the main building on Magnolia Street.

This project will address deferred maintenance in the Mission. Also, each of the two Magnolia Street Houses will be subdivided into two group living apartments. These two three-story houses will provide housing for up to 12 men at a time. When completed in May 2009, these renovations will allow City Gospel Mission to serve more people, extend the length of recovery programs and improve facilities.

The two buildings on Magnolia Street will house men in the Mission’s Aftercare Program. Men in the recovery program receive addiction counseling, job skills training, medical care, education, and help with finding and maintaining consistent employment. The new housing on Magnolia Street will give residents the next level of support needed after graduation from the recovery program.

In addition, the Mission’s facilities are also in great need of an upgrade. Plans are underway to make the Mission wheelchair accessible, install air-conditioning for the first time, fix plumbing, and replace poorly insulated windows to increase energy efficiency. These and other repairs and upgrades will increase the level of professionalism and create an environment where the homeless feel valued and supported as they rebuild their lives.
